As we celebrate Black History Month, it’s important to recognize the contributions Black people have made in our society. From technological achievements to literary works, black people have made a lasting impact on the way we live today. However, one area of innovation that shouldn’t be overlooked is business ownership - specifically black women-owned businesses. Today Lightheart Candles is taking a moment to highlight the importance of supporting black-owned businesses during Black History Month.
Black Female Entrepreneurship
When I think of black female entrepreneurs, Madam C.J Walker comes to mind. Madam C.J Walker was an entrepreneur, innovator and trailblazer whose accomplishments still continue to have an impact today. She was the first female self-made black business owner in America and was known for her inventive hair care products. Her vision of entrepreneurship helped to redefine the standard of beauty for black women. She achieved what many people thought to be unimaginable at the time. Thanks to her hard work, she paved the way for female entrepreneurs to redefine all industries. Her legacy has definitely inspired my entrepreneurial path to redefine one’s bath time with our unique all-in-one candle and soap bundles.
Black History Month
When it comes to celebrating Black History Month, one way we can honor the accomplishments of African Americans is by supporting black women-owned businesses. According to research from American Express OPEN, there has been an increase in the number of female-owned businesses since 2007— however many are still struggling financially due to lack of capital and resources needed for success. By supporting small business owners—especially those owned by black women—we can help create jobs, boost local economies and provide more opportunities for future generations.
All in all, supporting black businesses is an important part of celebrating Black History Month. There are many ways to do so beyond just buying products from those businesses. You can amplify their voices online by sharing their content across social media platforms and leave reviews on Google or Yelp. These simple tasks take just minutes but go a long way in helping small businesses grow! Consider supporting black business owners this month (and every month!). To support Lightheart Candles, share our blog and buy our new candle and soap bundles.
Any questions you might have, I will happily answer them.
